SBX Cars is proud to offer for sale this 1965 Porsche 356 C Cabriolet showing 91,175 miles on the odometer at the time of this cataloging. Finished in Ruby Red with a black retractable top over a black leatherette interior, this roadster is now offered by Wild About Cars Garage with records and a clear title.
As Porsche’s first production automobile, the 356 paved the way for decades of nimble, engaging sports cars from the brand. It took a simple approach to performance motoring, with a lightweight rear-engined design, an aluminum-bodied design, and an independent suspension. By the time the model was phased out after 1965, it had received heightened levels of refinement like four-wheel disc brakes, optimized build quality, more powerful engine options, and improved comfort.
This 356 C comes from the final year of production and was assembled on October 2, 1964 in Ruby Red over black leatherette. Later in life, it reportedly spent over four decades under the stewardship of an enthusiast in Minnesota. Around 2012, the car received a cosmetic restoration including a bare-metal respray in the original color. And the following year, a comprehensive mechanical rebuild was performed, with the car receiving valve guides, a full case re-seal, new piston rings, new brakes, and electrical work.
Today, the 356 is more than a sports car – it’s a cultural symbol – and it set the stage for the 911 and many other successful Porsche icons over the years. This numbers-matching, collector-quality Cabriolet was one of just 588 produced, and it wears its pioneering Porsche DNA with pride.
According to service notes in prior vehicle listings, the car received a mechanical overhaul in 2013 including a top-end engine rebuild with new valve guides, a case re-seal, new piston rings and related parts, and electrical work. The brakes were serviced at the same time.
This 356 C Cabriolet is said to be free of substantial imperfections.
The 356 C has enduring appeal among collectors and enthusiasts. From the moment you take the “LL” wood-rimmed steering wheel of this Ruby Red Cabriolet, you’ll get a clear sense of exactly how the Porsche brand became such a powerhouse when it comes to performance cars. This 356 is an enthusiast-owned example with unmatched curb appeal and a sorted, numbers-matching powertrain.
