This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 250GD “Wolf” sport-utility vehicle shows 3,705 miles on the odometer. Finished in dark blue over a two-tone blue and tan vinyl interior, this 250GD is offered with build documentation, service records, two keys, a bikini top, a soft top, two keys, and a clear title.
Expedition Motor Company (EMC) of Frenchtown, New Jersey is renowned for its expertise in reimagining classic convertible G-Wagens. The company says, “Every build that leaves our shop retains its authentic character while offering the usability and comfort of a modern vehicle.” EMC does its restorations completely in-house and invests upwards of 2,500 man-hours into each handcrafted build.
Originally developed for military purposes, the W461-chassis two-door G-Class was engineered with utilitarian durability in mind. This bespoke SUV received the full, meticulous EMC treatment including an overhaul of the exterior, interior, engine, and suspension. Under the hood is a robust 2.5-liter diesel inline-five mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Features include a fold-flat windshield, a brush guard, Bully side steps, a weatherproof interior, and grippy BFG All-Terrain T/A tires.
Best of all, EMC didn’t forget to include modern-day niceties like Vintage Air HVAC, a touchscreen audio system with Polk speakers, and a fully-upholstered dashboard with contrast stitching. This restored, open-air 250GD was hand-built by the experts and is ready for any sort of adventure.
In addition to the photo gallery, the seller has provided a series of videos showing the exterior, interior, and a start-up.
There are some small cosmetic blemishes as shown in the photos. There are some fluid seeps noted from the powertrain as noted above.
This 250GD was the product of 2,500 hours of meticulous craftsmanship, and it shows. Starting with the already-robust (and military-proven) G-Class platform, the experts at EMC infused the vehicle with modern suspension engineering, cutting-edge audio, an overhauled powertrain, and even some creature comforts. Factor in the included bikini and soft tops, and it’s perhaps the most versatile go-anywhere rig you’re bound to find anywhere in the vintage SUV marketplace.
