This 1978 Scout II Traveler is the ultimate retro off-roader — dark green, 5.3L V8 power, removable top, and adventure written all over it.
Overview
SBX Cars is proud to offer for sale this 1978 International Harvester Scout II Traveler 4x4 showing 54,164 miles on the odometer at the time of this cataloging. Finished in dark green over a custom saddle and gray two-tone interior, it is offered by a private seller in California.
Introduced in 1971 and assembled through 1980 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the Scout II was celebrated among off-road enthusiasts for its ruggedness and capabilities. Its successful formula called for simple ingredients: Solid front and rear axles, a ladder-style frame, a dual-range four-wheel drive system, and class-leading ground clearance. For the ultimate in versatility, a variant called the Scout II Traveler offered a longer (118-inch) wheelbase – bringing added cargo space for enhanced camp-ready credentials.
This restomod Scout II Traveler blends vintage design and modern engineering, thanks to a GM-supplied 5.3-liter Vortec V8 under the hood. Its performance credentials have been enhanced even further via a 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission, a Dana 20 dual-range transfer case, power disc brakes, and a custom stainless-steel exhaust system. Best of all, this Traveler’s hardtop can be removed to put adventure-seekers even closer to the great outdoors.
When it comes to all-terrain capability, the Scout II is a versatile 4x4, and a customized example with V8 power is the perfect rig for blending old-school style with straightforward, modern reliability.
