Description

If the subject of innovative hypercars ever comes up in conversation, Koenigsegg is one of the brand names that will undoubtedly be mentioned. Despite being an extremely niche market, the Swedish firm holds its own chasing and battling competitors, paving their own roads with ingenious examples like this one-of-a-kind Koenigsegg Regera.

Ever since Christian von Koenigsegg unveiled the Koenigsegg CC at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival, the brand has gone on to pioneer a raft of automotive firsts, from creating hollow carbon-fiber wheels capable of speeds in excess of 450 km/h (280 mph), 3D-printed turbochargers, a single-state torque converter able to handle over 2,000 Nm (1,475 lb-ft) of torque, and a hybrid-drive engine producing more than 1,500 hp. Nowhere was that cutting-edge technology best applied than the Koenigsegg Regera.

First displayed to the public in concept form at the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show, with the production form debuting the following year, the hypercar boasted a pair of Dihedral synchro-helix doors and an incredibly rigid carbon-fiber monocoque that allowed for a removable roof, which itself could be stored in the nose of the car.

The Regera’s most compelling feature, however, was its revolutionary hybrid-drive powertrain. Dubbed the ‘Koenigsegg Direct Drive’ system, it paired a 1,100 hp 5.0-liter V8 engine fed by a brace of 3D-printed variable turbochargers with a trio of electric motors, two of which powered each rear driveshaft, while the conventional gearbox was replaced by Koenigsegg’s ‘Hydrocoup’ torque converter – a remarkable and unique single-state drive mechanism. Allied to this was an 800-volt battery system utilizing technology from the top-flight of international motorsport. The electric motors not only smoothed out power delivery at low engine speeds, but also contributed a staggering 700 hp to the Regera’s already prodigious output for a cumulative total of 1,500 hp. The result is a machine that – a full nine years after its launch – continues to set records, having reached 400 km/h (249 mph) in a blistering 28.81 seconds last year.

Production of the Koenigsegg Regera was limited to just 80 examples, but it was testament to the incredible technology packed into the hypercar that all had sold by the middle of 2017. An incredible level of personalization ensures that each car is unique, including the example offered here. The Regera features an eye-catching factory Nordic Light finish. Along with exposed spots that proudly display its gloss carbon undercoat, this configuration also includes bright yellow accents that beautifully complement the shape and styling of the Regera. The Regera was further optioned with matching Nordic Light carbon ceramic brake calipers and gloss carbon fiber wheels. The latter form part of the ‘Ghost’ high-downforce package that this spectacular hypercar also boasts, which includes a lip spoiler and flics at the front or the car, as well as a pair of winglets at the rear.

Opening Regera’s iconic Dihedral synchro-helix sports reveals a luxurious interior layered in quilted white leather with light blue contrast stitching. Both the Koenigsegg family crest and logo are proudly stitched into each carbon sports bucket seat, safely securing the driver and passenger for a driving experience, unlike any other hypercar. With a complete carbon layout, minimal media distractions, and additional driving modes, it is safe to say that the Koenigsegg Regera is all about performance for the road and track.

This Regera not only presents a unique opportunity to acquire one of the fastest cars ever created, but also one of the most technologically advanced.

This is a 2021 Koenigsegg Regera. This particular example of the grand touring sports car is finished in Nordic Light over a white leather interior, and has the added benefit of the ‘Ghost’ high-downforce package. The Regera features a unique hybrid system, combining a 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with three electric motors, producing a combined output of 1,500 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of torque (2,000 Nm).

This Koenigsegg Regera is the ultimate example of the Swedish manufacturer’s grand touring sports car, with the added benefit of the ‘Ghost’ high-downforce package, which includes a lip spoiler and flics at the front or the car, as well as a pair of winglets at the rear.
