Guys, this is insane: a rare 1969 Shelby GT500 in Competition Red, numbers-matching, restored 428 Cobra Jet V8, massive power, iconic looks, and verified authenticity.

Highlights

  • Numbers-matching 428ci Cobra Jet V8
  • 1 of 89 finished in Competition Red
  • Black knit Hi-Back bucket seats
  • Mechanically restored to factory specifications
  • Deluxe Marti Report
  • Multiple concours and show awards

Overview

This 1969 Shelby GT500, showing 64,770 miles (104,237 km) on the odometer at the time of cataloging, is a numbers-matching example finished in the rare shade of Competition Red over handsome knit black interior. One of just 89 produced in this color, it has been mechanically restored to factory specifications and is accompanied by a Deluxe Marti Report verifying its authenticity and original configuration.

Everything about this car leans into the GT500’s big-block presence. The SportsRoof body carries the full Shelby treatment—NACA ducted hood, kicked up rear spoiler, quarter panel vents, and big square exhaust outlets. Sitting on correct five-spoke wheels with white-letter tires, the attitude that made this car a legend is fully present and accounted for.

But is under the hood, of course, where the true excitement hides. This original, fully restored 428 Cobra Jet V8 was factory (under)rated for a heady 335 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque, the kind of torque-heavy performance that defines late-’60s muscle. With documented provenance, factory-correct mechanicals, and multiple show awards to its name, this GT500 backs up its swagger with serious substance.
