SBX Cars is proud to offer for sale this 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator. Produced at the height of the muscle car era, the Eliminator represented Mercury’s most aggressive and competition-focused interpretation of the Cougar platform.
This example occupies an exceptionally rare position within that already rarefied air. Equipped from the factory with the 428 Super Cobra Jet Drag Pack, C6 automatic transmission, and 3.91 rear end, it is documented as 1 of only 5 known to exist in this configuration and verified as 1-of-1 as equipped by its Marti Report.
Originally restored by KTL Restorations and later refined by Marcus Anghel to ensure the highest level of factory accuracy, this Cougar retains its original drivetrain and sheet metal. The level of preservation, documentation, and authenticity places it among the most significant Eliminators known today.
This Cougar has been fully documented and registered, with restoration work initially completed by KTL Restorations and later refined by Marcus Anghel in Scottsdale, Arizona. Extensive photo documentation of the restoration process is included.
The included Marti Auto Works report shows this Cougar was built on January 22, 1970, and delivered new to Colonial Mercury of Virginia Beach, Virginia. The vehicle retains its original matching-numbers 428 Super Cobra Jet engine, original drivetrain, and original sheet metal.
The 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator stands as one of the most formidable and underrated muscle cars of the era, blending bold design with serious factory performance intent.
This Super Cobra Jet Drag Pack example distinguishes itself through extraordinary rarity, matching-numbers originality, and exhaustive documentation, all supported by expert restoration and careful subsequent refinement.
With its 1-of-1 configuration and verified provenance, this Cougar Eliminator offers collectors a rare chance to acquire a historically important Mercury that represents the peak of the brand’s muscle car ambitions.
