This factory-restored 1970 Porsche 914 is an ultra-rare, Liquid Silver, mid-engine icon—reborn by Porsche themselves. A milestone masterpiece with killer provenance.
Overview
SBX Cars is proud to offer for sale this 1970 Porsche 914 Targa showing 79,756 miles on the odometer at the time of this cataloging. Finished in Liquid Silver over a black leather interior, this first-year 914 is offered in Australia by The CCI Company with a service manual and authentication documentation.
The mid-engined, two-seat 914 was crafted as a collaboration between Porsche and Volkswagen from 1970 through 1976. At its core, it was a fun roadster with sharp handling, a unique Targa style, and optimal balance thanks to a mid-mounted engine. Motor Trend magazine named the 914 its Import Car of the Year in 1970, marking the first year for such an award to be presented by the media outlet.
As part of Porsche’s subsequent 70th anniversary activities in 2018, the company restored 20 Porsche vehicles and painted them all in the same Liquid Silver color. A description of the project was as follows:
“Porsche is synonymous with sports car construction at the very highest level, and 2018 marked our 70th anniversary. To celebrate this milestone, Porsche Cars Great Britain undertook a special restoration project to restore and exclusive selection of models from different chapters of Porsche history.”
This striking 914 was one of the recipients of that treatment. According to documentation accompanying the car, it received over 500 hours of work between the body and mechanical effort. It is the only factory-restored 914 built to commemorate a milestone. The exterior, interior, suspension, braking system, and engine were all overhauled with the idea of making the car factory-fresh.
Today, it’s a symbolic “new classic” car with that exudes the rich history of the Porsche brand, open-air Targa style, and documented provenance straight from the manufacturer. A rare opportunity indeed.
