SBX Cars is proud to offer for sale this 1988 BMW M3 showing 90,064 km (55,963 mi) on the odometer at the time of cataloging. Finished in Henna Red over a Black cabin, this is the M3 that started it all.
From the original E30 generation, this 1988 M3 is car enthusiast royalty. Developed as a homologation special for Group A racing in the 80s, BMW was effectively selling street-legal race cars with the original M3. Box flares, revised aero, and a screaming S14 inline-4 with individual throttle bodies are just some of the E30 M3 goodies.
Today’s example, shimmering with a Hennarot repaint, stuns with forged BBS alloys, killer Recaro front buckets, and its largely original condition. Polar opposite to the computer-controlled supercars of today, this 1988 M3 is all about hardcore analog driving excitement.
This 1988 BMW M3 is powered by a 2.3L S14 inline-4 rated for 192 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. A 5-speed manual routes power to the rear wheels with a limited-slip differential.
The start-up video in the gallery gives a taste of what the next owner of this spectacular 1998 BMW M3 is in for. That being a 7,250-rpm redline to go with lust worthy bodywork and throwback analog dynamics punctuated by the E30 M3’s light weight and race-tuned chassis.
Automobile Magazine named the E30 M3 as one of the five best driver's cars of all time - heady praise indeed. For the serious driving enthusiast, today’s 1988 BMW M3 is not to be missed.
