When BMW rolled out the third-generation M5 in the late ‘90s, its V8 powerplant was somewhat controversial given the Motorsports division’s history of inline-6 engines. However, that sentiment was quickly dispatched once critics and enthusiasts realized the German automaker had delivered the ultimate ‘bahn burner. 

Subtle identifiers like a discreet chin spoiler, small M fender badges, wide rear tires wrapping deep-dish alloys, and four exhaust outlets were apparent only to those in the know. Defining the word “sleeper”, this new E39 M5 was packing a naturally aspirated 4.9L V8 with aluminum construction, a 7,000-rpm redline, and a 6-speed manual.

OWNERSHIP HISTORY & PROVENANCE

This 2000 M5 was delivered new to Capital Cities Imported Cars of Glenmont, NY on July 28, 2000 and registered to the first owner in NY on August 29, 2000. It was owned for 22 years including 10 years in storage before the second owner took possession on April 20, 2023 with just over 23,000 miles.

Per the seller, this M5 underwent a professional detail by car enthusiast and YouTube detailing star Larry Kosilla prior to his purchase. Exterior, interior, and undercarriage were thoroughly cleaned, followed by application of ceramic coating and PPF.

Since then, the aforementioned service has taken place, new tires were installed, and a little more than 1,000 miles have been added.

NOTED IMPERFECTIONS

Damage was reported in June 2007 that required a replacement hood, headlight assembly, and A/C condenser at the time. Currently, there is minor road rash present on some of the wheels and driver’s seat bolster wear.
