OVERVIEW

Offered for sale on SBX Cars is this mesmerizing 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, finished in Lava Orange over a black interior, showing 11,925 miles at the time of cataloging.

MODEL HISTORY

When the 991.1 GT3 RS was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 2015, it was met with critical acclaim.

It was quite the controversial car for Porsche, namely due to the fact the brand had dropped the long-lived and much-loved Mezger engine, and ditched the manual in favor of the automaker’s dual-clutch PDK automatic transmission.

However, there was a method to Porsche’s madness, as the brand sought to cast a wider net for a larger demographic and chase the lowest lap times.

It’s worth pointing out that on occasion, automaker’s build a car not with their regular engineers, but with race engineers and, when the work is done, they kindly ask their colleagues from the road car department to make the car legal enough to be registered.

That’s very much the case with the 991.1 GT3 RS, which had the maximum race-required features to be a serious contender on the track, while also being a viable daily driver.

Its front splitter, front fender air vents, and massive rear spoiler all provide downforce to keep the car planted on the tarmac.

The rear wing alone provides a load of 220 kg (485 lbs) at 180 mph (300 km/h), while carbon fiber deployed for the hood and front fenders, and a magnesium roof kept weight down.

Weight reduction on the inside was also a consideration for Porsche, where the car’s rear seats were replaced with a roll cage, while the front seats were constructed from carbon fiber with leather and Alcantara upholstery.

The GT3 RS still had air conditioning, an infotainment system, and a few other creature comforts, though, enabling the driver to drive to the race-track and back, rather than transporting the car on a platform.

Speaking of how potent the GT3 RS’s performance is, it managed to lap the world-famous Nürburgring in just seven minutes and 20 seconds – four seconds quicker than a Porsche Carrera GT.

That impressive lap time was largely thanks to what’s under the rear lid – a marvelous technological achievement in the form of a 500-horsepower naturally aspirated flat-six.

That powertrain’s internal components, with airspace technology materials, enable the engine to rev up to 8,800 rpm.

What’s more, the engine was mated – for the first time ever in a 911 – to a PDK transmission, with specific function like a pit-lane speed limiter and de-clutch for instant disengaging any gear.

While the 991.1 GT3 RS wasn’t available with three pedals, the seven-speed box is incredibly quick and precise, also allowing for full-bore launch control starts, rocketing the car to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.3 seconds.

THIS 2016 PORSCHE 911 GT3 RS

This 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is presented in Lava Orange contrasted by staggered GT3 RS wheels (20” front, 21” rear) finished in satin black, which sit in front of a ceramic composite braking system with yellow calipers.

Additional desirable extras selected for this GT3 RS include black LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), headlight cleaning system covers matching the exterior paintwork, clear taillights, SportDesign side mirrors with a high-gloss black lower trim, and an aluminum-look fuel cap.

The close attention to detail carries over to the interior, where one has to step over illuminated door sill guards finished in carbon fiber when entering the cabin.

The centerpiece of the GT3 RS’s cabin are undoubtedly the factory carbon-fiber racing seats, covered in black leather and Alcantara, with contrasting Lava Orange stitching and ‘GT3 RS’ emblems on the headrests.

Adding to the Lava Orange theme, the seat belts were specified in the same color, as was the half roll cage.

The interior is further enhanced with carbon-fiber floor mats with leather edging, a luggage net in the passenger footwell, and the Light Design Package, which adds controllable ambient lighting.

Driver inputs are controlled through an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with similarly matching Lava Orange stitching, aluminum pedals, and a Porsche PDK gear selector.

Further, a Lava Orange 12-o’clock marker was specified, as was the Sound Package Plus, Smoking Package, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including navigation module, Sport Chrono Package (Porsche Track Precision App), and auto-dimming mirrors with integrated rain sensor.

For greater convenience, this Porsche has been fitted with an extended range fuel tank (23.9 gallons/109 liters), lightweight battery (lithium-ion), and front axle lift system.

Paint Protection Film (PPF) has been added to the entirety of the vehicle in order to protect its Lava Orange exterior. The seller advises that some bubbling has developed on the wing which is assumed to be the PPF but definitive causes are unknown (can be seen in gallery pictures 31 through 34).

There is currently a lien out on the car, and the seller’s lender will need to be paid off before the title can be transferred to the new owner.

MECHANICAL
