Description

OVERVIEW

Offered for sale on SBX Cars is this 2018 Ford GT, finished in Frozen White with Sonic Blue Pearl Metallic stripes over a black leather interior, and showing just 10 kilometers (~6 miles) from new.

MODEL HISTORY

The second-generation Ford GT stunned the world when it was unveiled at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. It also proved that the automaker could still produce a world-beating, mid-engine supercar, and it intended to prove this at the crucible of motorsports – the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The second iteration of the modern GT comes fitted with a 647-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine mated to a seven-speed Getrag dual-clutch transmission, good for the 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) dash in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 216 mph (348 km/h).

Ford’s designers worked tirelessly to prioritize the GT’s low weight and aerodynamic efficiency, penning bodywork that ingeniously channels air to its engine and brakes while maximizing downforce. Stopping power comes in the form of six-piston monoblock calipers over 15.5-inch carbon-ceramic discs up front, while four-piston calipers are mounted over 14.1-inch units out back. The Ford GT also employed hydraulic power steering, making for a racecar that, by every account, provided satisfying feedback to the driver. Designers also worked on prioritizing an efficient architecture, with the sports seats fixed rather than adjustable, and the pedal box and steering wheel designed to adjust around the driver rather than vice versa.

The Ford GT features a carbon-fiber monocoque structure bolted to front and rear aluminum subframes that serve as stressed members for the hydraulically-adjustable pushrod suspension system. Variable ride height, front-axle lift system, selectable driving modes, and launch control are standard features.

The car has five different drive modes (Wet, Comfort, Sport, Track and V-Max), plus a computer-controlled aerodynamic package that helps it develop more downforce but less drag than any rival. There is also an airbrake at the back and winglets at the front that move to alter the center of pressure as the downforce increases at speed. Without these, the GT would develop too much downforce at the front relative to the rear. In Track mode, the car instantly lowers by 50mm at the flick of a switch, and the springs effectively become 100 percent stiffer than in Sport mode. In Sport and Track, there is an anti-lag system that all-but eliminates turbo lag by keeping the turbines spinning irrelevant of the throttle position.

Demand for the Ford GT was – and remains – insatiable; applications outnumbered available chassis by nearly tenfold at the model’s official launch. The application process was stringent, with Ford handpicking loyal enthusiasts and mandating that they keep their cars for an extended period of time. Only 1,350 GT examples were planned through the 2022 model year, with production being handled by Multimatic of Markham, Ontario, Canada. As such, the current GT model is a far rarer and more potent offering than previous, with nearly 2,700 fewer examples produced than the 2005-2006 GT model.

THIS 2018 FORD GT

A one-owner, Canadian-market example, this incredibly well-specified 2018 Ford GT was purchased new by the current owner at Downtown Ford of Toronto, Ontario. It left the factory finished in Frozen White with overtop Sonic Blue Pearl Metallic stripes, which were fitted as a CAD$19,600 option.

Other optional equipment specced at the time of ordering included six-point harness anchors, the exterior matte carbon-fiber package, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, red brake calipers, 20-inch Satin Silver alloy wheels, and an Akrapovič titanium exhaust system. Additional details include LED headlights, a lightweight Gorilla Glass windshield, butterfly doors, a retractable active rear wing, LED taillights, and a rear diffuser.

The cabin of this Ford GT was optioned with the CAD$37,300 Dark Energy interior upgrade package and, as such, features black leather-covered Sparco seats with manually reclining carbon-fiber shells, complimented by exposed carbon fiber on the door panels. The fixed-position driver seat is paired with an adjustable pedal box and steering column, while additional appointments include automatic climate control, a touchscreen infotainment system, paddle shifters, and a configurable digital instrument panel.
