SBX Cars is proud to offer for sale this 1958 Chevrolet Corvette convertible showing 44,567 miles on the odometer at the time of this cataloging. Finished in Tuxedo Black with silver coves over a red vinyl interior, this C1 is offered by the Classic Car Collective in Greenville, South Carolina with spare parts, service records, documentation, owner’s manuals, an NCRS specifications guide, and a Finnish title.
The first-generation Corvette represented a daring, but calculated, move into the sports car realm for an American manufacturer. The car became known as a performance leader, and today, its iconic status is recognized around the world. Model year 1958 marked a significant redesign for the Corvette; among the changes that year were new quad headlights, a revised grille, and a wider stance.
Presented for your consideration today is a C1 that is perhaps one of the best-preserved, largely original Corvettes from the era. According to documentation that accompanies the car, it was first sold new from North York Chevrolet in Ontario, Canada. Following extended time on display, it was relocated to Helsinki, Finland for about a decade. The car subsequently made the return trek to North America, although it has never been titled in the United States. The license plates from Finland remain affixed.
Debuting at the Pigeon Forge Corvette Expo in 2023, the car garnered accolades for its original paint which shows just the correct amount of patina. Under the louvered hood is a numbers-matching 283ci V8 with dual Carter four-barrel carburetors, and accompanying the car is a binder of documentation that chronicles its entire life history back to the original point of sale for $5,795 with options.
This remarkable investment-quality C1 Corvette will inspire anyone who lays eyes on it.
The car has accrued roughly 5,000 miles in the 38 years since a 1987 appraisal was carried out. It is shown running and driving in the dealer’s video series.
A summary of work done in 2010 at approximately 44,100 miles (by SV Automotive Engineering in California) prior to the car being exported to Finland is included in the Documentation gallery.
A binder of documentation chronicles the car’s complete ownership history back to new, including materials mentioned hereafter.
A professional appraisal (“Special Interest Vehicle Report”) was carried out in 1987 by Kreger Evaluation Services Ltd. when the car showed 39,297 miles. Following were some of the takeaways at that time:
The detailed appraisal from 1987 noted the following:
A subsequent appraisal was conducted in June 2010 by SV Automotive Engineering following completion of refurbishment and servicing work. That document is included in the Documentation gallery.
The selling dealer has provided a series of videos, including a narrated walk-around, a running demonstration, an interior overview, a trunk review, a start-up, a drive-by, and a documentation review.
There is an old saying in the collector-car market: “They are only original once.” An unrestored car wearing its original factory paint is a rare and valuable time capsule – let alone one that according to the National Corvette Restorers Society was 1 of only 199 made in its color combination. The 1958 model is a "one year only" icon in Corvette history and considered by many to be the most desireable. This is a collector-grade Corvette with all the provenance of a unique story to back it up.
